Statement on the Execution of Mohsen Shekari

The execution of Mohsen Shekari just weeks after a sham trial is an outrage and a profound miscarriage of justice, and represents yet another young life ended by the Islamic Republic’s brutality. The National Iranian American Council unequivocally condemns the execution of Shekari and calls on the Iranian government to halt all executions and free the 18,000 prisoners who have been unjustly detained.

Congress to Biden: Halt Bank Discrimination Against Iranians

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sent a letter signed by 22 lawmakers to the White House regarding the closure of American citizens’ and permanent residents’ bank accounts on the basis of their national origin. National Iranian American Council Action was proud to endorse this letter as part of our years-long efforts to educate policymakers about the damage caused by discriminatory account closures. 

Iran Responds to EU JCPOA proposal, water shortages spur protests, & more

Iran has given its response to an EU proposal to revive the JCPOA. The U.S. has yet to respond to the Iranian revision, but it has been described as “constructive” by some sources. Meanwhile, Iranian officials are calling for a “prisoner swap” with the U.S. and the water supply to an Iranian city has been disrupted.
