Washington, DC – Today, the National Iranian American Council wrote Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging him to continue efforts to expedite visas and refugee processing for Iranian nationals, with a specific focus on Iranian students. August is typically the high water mark for the U.S. to admit Iranian students on visas so that they can begin classes on time for the fall semester. Any delays can have significant ramifications on the lives of those accepted to U.S. universities.
Unfortunately, there continue to be indications that Iranian students are encountering difficulties in securing visas via administrative backlogs and unexplained rejections. Particularly given the administration’s expression of support for the people of Iran throughout the nationwide crackdown on protests, it is important for the U.S. to demonstrate its support and prioritize the processing of visas, as we explain in the letter below:
