Sacramento, CA – Ross Mirkarimi, San Francisco County Supervisor, has been appointed to the California Coastal Commission for a two-year term by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), Chair of the California State Senate Rules Committee. Mirkarimi co-founded California’s Green Party in 1990, and coordinated Ralph Nader’s 2000 presidential campaign in California. He is also a member of the Iranian-American Chamber of Commerce and the National Organization of Women and has been an Environmental Analyst with the Harvard Study Team (Iraq), Bayview Hunters Point and California Base Closures. “Mr. Mirkarimi brings much experience in grappling with complex land-use decisions in San Francisco. I look forward to him bringing this expertise to his work on the Coastal Commission” Steinberg has said. The California Coastal Commission represents the Central North Coast Counties of San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma to protect, conserve, restore and enhance environmental and human-based resources of the state’s coast and ocean for environmentally sustainable and prudent use by current and future generations. Mr. Mikraimi was nominated by the Boards of Supervisors of those counties and League of Cities nominating committees. “This appointment to one of the premier commissions in the State of California is yet another indication that Iranian Americans are contributing to State and local governments now more than ever before,” said NIAC President Trita Parsi. |
