NIAC in the News: Iranian-born councilman poised to become mayor

Beverly Hills, Copley News Service – This city of 35,000 has long been a symbol of sun-drenched Southern Californian opulence, but the most recent mayoral election created outsized ripples even by Beverly Hills standards: After the vote was certified last week, the mayor-to-be received congratulatory calls and media inquiries from New York, Chicago, Canada, Amsterdam, Israel and Iran… Trita Parsi, president of the Washington-based National Iranian American Council, said that after a long period of “largely self-imposed political marginalization,” recent world events have prodded members of his community to get involved in civic affairs.
