Washington, DC – Iranian Americans Alexis Latifi and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) have been profiled in The Hill’s 50 Most Beautiful People 2010. Every year, The Hill, a local media outlet specializing in news from inside the Beltway, chooses 50 individuals who work on Capitol Hill – be they Senators, Representatives or staffers – deemed good looking.

Latifi, a staff assistant in the office of Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), shattered the competition, crowning the list at number one. “My face turned bright red,” Latifi told NIAC, referring to when she heard of her candidacy. “I was flattered. I thought, maybe if I’m lucky, I’ll make the list.” It was a pleasant surprise, therefore, to hear she not only made it, but in fact topped it.

“I grew up in small town but because my father is Persian it exposed me to a world outside of Alabama,” Latifi said. A proud Iranian American, her heritage has played a very important role in her life, as demonstrated by her academic achievements, love for food and awareness of other cultures and societies. Her lifetime passion for politics led her to leave her hometown of Huntsville last year to join Senator Shelby’s staff in Washington. Having visited Iran before, she brings a unique perspective to Capitol Hill.

Rep. Eshoo, described in the profile as having a “Sophia Loren-esque look,” has served in the United States Congress for nearly two decades. Having embraced the heritage of her father, who hails from the northern Iranian city of Orumiyeh, the Congresswoman has been and continues to be an ardent supporter of the Iranian-American community, often appearing at NIAC events.
