“Beholding Beauty”: Exploring Desire, Sexuality, and Spirituality Through Sa’di Shirazi

On Saturday, March 6, NIAC Action was thrilled to launch our first Norooz 1400 event “Beholding Beauty: Exploring Desire, Sexuality, and Spirituality Through Sa’di Shirazi” co-hosted by the NIAC Chicago, New York, and San Francisco chapters. In case you missed the event or you want to watch again, you can view the recording here.

The purpose of this event was to educate all generations in our community about how same-sex love and desire is very much part of our literary heritage and celebrate the works of upcoming Iranian-American musicians. Nouhi’s Nomad opened and closed the evening live with an electrifying selection of music from their upcoming album. Professor Domenico Ingenito (UCLA) and NIAC Leadership Council Member Sarah Sakha also held a riveting discussion about the various themes of love and desire in the poetry of Sa’di Shirazi. Professor Ingenito presented highlights from his new book, which explores notions of the sacred and the profane as well as plays on gender  in Sa’di’s works.

If you enjoyed Nouhi’s Nomad music and want to support Iranian-American artists, you can pre-order their upcoming album here!

Want to read Domenico’s new book because the topic was so refreshing and fascinating? Make sure to purchase a copy of Professor Ingenito’s new book using discount code 71312 (valid until March 31, 2021)!
