On September 1st, 2023, NIAC President Jamal Abdi sent a letter addressed to JPMorgan Chase & Co CEO Jamie Dimon to flag a concern regarding a branch of Chase Bank reportedly refusing to open an account for an international student in Illinois on the basis of their Iranian nationality. As articulated in the letter, there is no legitimate sanctions compliance basis for this refusal. NIAC aims for this letter to open up a dialogue to ensure that such acts are not repeated in the future.
