On February 1st, 2024, NIAC joined 80 organizations in a letter addressed to President Biden urging that, amid recently escalated military strikes between U.S. forces and Iran-aligned militias in the region, to pursue diplomacy and de-escalation over continued military responses that fail to deter said militias.
“The Biden administration is at a critical juncture. The President’s response to the attack that tragically took the lives of three U.S. servicemembers will not just determine whether the U.S. is entangled in a disastrous regional war with Iran that would increase threats to U.S. troops, it may also have a decisive impact on his bid for reelection in November,” said Ryan Costello, NIAC Policy Director, upon formal release of the letter. “The track record is clear: negotiations have reduced threats to U.S. troops, while military escalation has not. We urge Biden to choose diplomacy and a ceasefire instead of escalation and war,” he further stated.
