Chicago Resolution Opposes War, Urges Diplomacy with Iran
Written by Emily Blout
Monday, 12 May 2008

ImageThe Chicago City Council will consider a resolution Wednesday that would put America’s third largest city on the record as opposing war and supporting diplomatic engagement with Iran. Call your alderman about this important vote.

The initiative, spearheaded by Alderman Joe Moore (D-49th ward), reflects the deep concern of Chicago residents and local organizations about the rising tensions between the nations over Iran’s nuclear program and its role in the Middle East.

According to Michael Lynn of the Chicago based No War on Iran Collation, the goal of the resolution is to raise the profile of the issue and to “show that there would be serious political consequences to any attack [on Iran].”

A hearing on the resolution will be held this Tuesday, May 13 in room 201-A of city hall and will feature the expert testimony of John Mearsheimer, Scott Ritter, Stephen Kinzer, Douglass Cassel, Norma Claire Moruzzi, and Farah Hassen.

The Chicago City Council is slated to vote on Moore’s resolution on Wednesday at 10 am.

Call your alderman about this important vote.
