Sara Shokravi has been with NIAC since February of 2007. Prior to joining NIAC, she served as a Legal Assistant to the Structured Finance practice law group for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, a leading global law firm. She began her position at Orrick’s Los Angeles office and later on moved to the firm’s D.C. office. From 2004 to 2007 Sara was a volunteer staff member for the National Collegiate Conference Association. Her work included researching and publishing several background guides for students participating in the internationally attended National Model United Nations. Published articles include: “The Situation in Iran;” “Nuclear Proliferation in the Middle East;” “Regulating Conventional Arms;” and “Cooperation against Transnational Organized Crime.” Sara also served as a Congressional Fellow through the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy where she gained invaluable insight into the workings of Capitol Hill through her placement in Congressman Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) office. Prior to her work in Representative Schiff's office, she also worked with the Muslim Public Affairs Council serving as the Hate Crimes Prevention Assistant Coordinator. Born in Iran, Sara has been an active member of the Iranian community in the United States. Her activism won her scholarships and recognition by the Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage Outstanding Academic Achievement in Higher Education, Society of Iranian-American Women, and the Ali Razi Scholarship for Community Service. Sara is currently in her final semester at American University working towards a Master of Arts in International Politics and will begin her MBA in Fall 2008 focusing on international trade. Her thesis will be on economic diplomacy with an emphasis on Iran and the United States. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and History from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Sara wrote her final history thesis on the Confederation of Iranian American Students Union (CISNU). |
