NIAC Welcomes Iranian-American Judge’s Victory in Discrimination Case

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Elham Khatami

Washington, D.C. – Elham Khatami, National Outreach Director with the National Iranian American Council, released the following statement after the Justice Department settled a discrimination lawsuit filed by Iranian-American immigration judge Ashley Tabbador:

“This decision is a victory that further protects the Iranian-American community’s right to civic engagement. Judge Tabbador, who had been ordered to recuse herself from all cases involving Iranians after attending a White House meeting with other Iranian-American community leaders, should be commended for fighting back against this clear case of discrimination based on her Iranian descent. Iranian Americans are a highly accomplished group that forms a rich part of the fabric of American life, and have the inalienable right to voice their opinion on civic affairs without discrimination. This outcome upholds and strengthens that right, and should be welcomed.”
