After decades of lobbying on the issue, the Office of Management and Budget has officially proposed a significant change to the 2030 U.S. Census with the creation of an individual MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) category.
NIAC, United Chinese Americans, RISE AAPI and over 100 other national and Texas-based civil rights organizations signed a letter to Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and the members of the Texas State Senate and House opposing Texas SB147.
After the years of tragedy and disaster that followed the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Senate voted to repeal the 2002 authorization to use force against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. NIAC has urged that the decades-old authorization be repealed to prevent it from being abused as a blank check for presidents to justify U.S. military action on Iran without any public debate or approval from Congress.

Iran’s legal system has revealed formal legal charges against two journalists – Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi – who have been held in provisional custody for seven months. On Wednesday, April 26, Masoud Setayeshi, the judiciary spokesperson, labeled the charges against the two detained reporters as “cooperation with the antagonistic U.S. government, conspiracy and collaboration in carrying out offenses against national security, and engaging in propaganda activities against the regime.” Their cases have now been forwarded on to the Islamic Revolutionary Court.
