NIAC Releases Transcript of June 17 and Nov. 4, 2009 Conferences

Cover of 2009 Conferences TranscriptWashington, DC – The complete transcript for NIAC’s two 2009 Capitol Hill Policy Conferences is now available. The conferences, held on June 17, 2009 and November 4, 2009, were titled “The US & Iran: Between Elections and Enrichment” and “The US & Iran: Human Rights, Diplomacy, & Sanctions,” respectively.

The June 17 conference, held just 5 days after the widely-disputed Iranian presidential election, featured remarks by Reps. Gregory Meeks and John Tierney and two panels of experts. The first panel, “Reassessing Inspections and Verification,” was moderated by Glenn Kessler and featured Dr. David Kay, Ambassador Francois Nicoullaud, and Bruno Pellaud. The second panel, “A Conversation on the Iranian Elections” was moderated by Nisid Hajari and featured Professor Ali Akbar Mahdi, Hooman Majd, and Dr. Suzanne Maloney.

The November 4 conference also featured two panels of experts. The first panel, entitled “Human Rights and the Battle for Iran,” featured Professor Mehrzad Boroujerdi, Geneive Abdo, and Dr. Hadi Ghaemi. The second panel, entitled “Assessing Obama’s Diplomacy,” featured Ambassador John Limbert, Ambassador Thomas Pickering, and Greg Thielmann. Both panels were moderated by NIAC President Dr. Trita Parsi.
