Roll Call: Five by Five Friday Q & A, Jamal Abdi, NIAC, Part Two

For part two of the discussion about Iranian nuclear negotiations, read on.

What was NIAC’s reaction to the administration’s reported plan to avert taking sanctions relief to Congress, at least at the beginning?

I think that our hope is that this deal is as robust as permanent as possible, to make sure everyone is locked in and has bought into this deal. The best way to do that is to actually make the deal permanently applicable, whether that’s through passing a U.N. resolution, passing legislation, or something else to make sure that everybody’s bought into this. I understand the Obama administration not wanting to do that at the outset.
