NIAC President Dr. Trita Parsi spoke on a panel at The Century Foundation’s “Turning Back the Bomb: Hard Cases & Grand Designs.” The panel also featured Amb. Gerard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, Christine Wing, Senior Fellow, Center on International Cooperation, NYU, and Randy Rydell, Senior Political Affairs Officer, United Nations: High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. “We have had – particularly in the United States in the last couple of years – a tendency to view Iran almost solely through the prism of nuclear enrichment. The nuclear nonproliferation issue – as important as it is in the case of Iran – is the footnote. The headline is actually what is taking place in that country internally, which can have a decisive impact for the future of Iran as a state, as a democracy but also for the region as a whole,” stated Dr. Parsi.
