Peace Has No Price Tag

Only moments after Zarif and Kerry reached a deal to extend diplomacy, hawks nationwide launched the next phase of their campaign to destroy hopes for diplomacy altogether.

Five thousand supporters of Christians United for Israel (CUFI) – a hardline, evangelical group whose leader, Pastor John Hagee, has called for pre-emptive military strikes against Iran – came to Washington this week to lobby Congress for new sanctions and to end diplomacy. “Enough was enough,” the group’s Executive Director said about their decision to try to kill the talks.

Meanwhile, AIPAC’s leaders were on Capitol Hill last week warning lawmakers to take a hard line against an Iran deal. The group issued a statement saying they are “deeply disappointed” in the decision to extend the talks and offer limited sanctions relief. And just last night a group of GOP Senators unveiled a bill to give Congress veto power over any final deal.

Proponents of war lack logic, but they don’t lack funds or numbers. CUFI alone has in the past generated 10,000 phone calls to Congress in just 3 hours. It has 1.6 million supporters in the U.S. and very deep pockets.

If they get their way, diplomacy will end, new sanctions will be imposed and the U.S. and Iran will once again be on a path to war. Hardliners in Iran will regain momentum and repression and human rights violations will intensify once more.

We can’t let that happen. We may be outspent, but we have defeated the warmongers in the past and we can do so again.

Just this week, NIAC members throughout the country met with their lawmakers and urged for continued diplomacy. Lawmakers have become increasingly responsive and many have told us they want to get a better score on NIAC’s diplomacy scorecard.

But without your support, the proponents of war will win. Don’t let that happen.

We are moving towards our goal of raising $100,000 by the end of this month to redouble our work to secure peace. Your help is needed.

Please contribute what you can today: $50, $100 or an amount right for you. It’s 100% tax-deductible.

You can’t put a price tag on peace.
