Yesterday, I had the pleasure of co-moderating a screening and panel discussion with the Iranian Filmmakers of Hamdardi. This acclaimed short film shows the harsh impact of discriminatory policies through the story of an Iranian family detained at the airport due to the 2017 Travel Ban.
The Ban is most likely returning in 2025, and NIAC is launching our new Travel Ban Center—a hub for the latest information and updates, legal aid, and advocacy—to combat this harmful policy and stand up for the dignity and rights of our community. This comprehensive center will include a story collection form, access to legal aid, volunteering opportunities, and advocacy tools to combat the ban’s harmful effects.
Please take advantage of this. Learn about the prohibition and available resources, and share your story so we can make sure lawmakers and the press hear them.
Lastly, NIAC acknowledges how utterly heartbreaking and predictably frustrating the ongoing natural disaster in Los Angeles is right now. We don’t need neglected public services and underserved communities. Fund our fire departments, not war.If you are seeking resources such as shelters and PPE. This list from MALAN has been shared widely – Mutual aid network of LA.
In solidarity
