Washington, DC – Speaking on Capitol Hill, General Thomas McInerney USAF (ret) proposed a massive military onslaught against Iran involving 3 carrier battle groups, 210 fighter aircrafts, 48 to 60 tankers, and a 30,000 pound bomb to penetrate the Fordow nuclear site. According to McInerney, the U.S. would destroy and neutralize Iran’s naval forces, Qods forces, Intelligence forces, and over twenty nuclear sites with 450 strikes sorties per day, 120 air superiority sorties per day, and 30 to 60 cruise missiles attack for the first seven days. McInerney USAF (ret) spoke alongside former CIA officer Clare Lopez on a Capitol Hill panel demanding the U.S. abandon diplomatic efforts with Iran, remove the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) from the terrorist list, and prepare for all-out war. Speaking before an audience that included Representative Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Capitol Hill staffers and a number of MEK advocates, McInerney and Lopez argued that the time had passed to resolve the nuclear issue with Iran, and the U.S. should instead actively pursue regime change by military and covert means. “The Iranian people want their country back, but they need to see a Western result,” argued McInerney. He called for the Obama administration to remove the MEK from the Foreign Terrorist Organization list, which under current law prohibits the United States from working with the group. “The MEK is being thrown under the bus by the Obama administration. The Clinton and Bush administration also threw them under the bus. It is criminal what has been done there and how we have treated these people who have been such valuable allies to us,” said McInerney. McInerney said a war with Iran would only require 3 to 5 weeks, and the U.S. would rely on covert forces instead of ground troops for any land invasion. Such an offensive, he argued, would ensure the Iranian people “get their country back.” Lopez echoed her support for the MEK as a usefulness source for exposing Iranian nuclear work. She chastised the P5+1 talks with Iran, saying “ These talks do nothing except allow Iran to achieve its level to build a warhead. We are looking at a repeat of a movie.” |
