Today from PressTV:

Lawmakers representing religious minorities in Iran’s parliament will accompany President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his upcoming visit to New York. Ahmadinejad will leave Tehran for the US on September 22 to attend the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, Fars news agency reported on Wednesday. The Iranian president will deliver a speech to the General Assembly on September 24. This would be the first time that all the five lawmakers representing religious minorities in the Majlis (parliament) will accompany the president on his visit to the UN headquarters. Traditionally, only one of the lawmakers accompanied the Iranian President on his visit to New York.

According to Rahe Sabz (Jaras), Ahmadinejad [and other hard-liners] has been pressuring members of Parliament who represent Iran’s religious minorities to accompany him on a trip to the United Nations in September. A source close to the religious minorities’ representatives in Parliament says that Ahmadinejad has been strongly pressuring the leaders in order to demonstrate his support for freedom of religion in Iran, in an attempt to smooth over his standing in the eyes of the international community.
