HIRING: Regional Organizer – Western US
The Regional Organizer for the Western U.S. will join NIAC’s Organizing Department and will be overseen by the National Organizing Director. The western region encompasses all states west of the Mississippi. This department works closely with NIAC’s Policy Department to coordinate direct advocacy with grassroots efforts from the field.
Develop local volunteer teams – Maximizes the political representation of the Iranian-American community by identifying and cultivating grassroots leaders. Provide support and motivation through field visits and remote management to grow, educate, and mobilize NIAC supporters.
Develop local volunteers into NIAC Congressional Captains to maintain relationships with each target Congressional district office. Develop volunteer teams to organize their local community to take strategic political actions that will move our targets.
Build relationships with target Congressional district staff – NIAC volunteer teams focus on building strong relationships with target Congressional offices to develop them into supporters and champions our legislative priorities. Requires the organizer to think strategically on what motivates each target. Also requires the organizer to research the political dynamics of each Congressional District. Tactics include but are not limited to Congressional in-district meetings, signature gathering, and attending and facilitating town hall meetings.
Grasstops organizing – Builds relationships with major community leaders, such as business owners, academics, and political donors, in each target Congressional District. Works with these grasstops leaders to deepen NIAC’s relationship with Members of Congress that they have relationships with. Also includes working with these grasstops leaders to help them build potential relationships if they don’t already have one.
Electoral organizing – Oversees NIAC Action’s electoral plan in each state with endorsed candidates. Includes recruiting NIAC Action members to coordinate their volunteer time directly with candidate campaigns along with working with NIAC Action’s Advancement Department to support NIAC Action member fundraisers. Ultimately, responsible for building a strong relationship with our endorsees’ campaigns.
Assist in building NIAC Action’s political pipeline – Identifying community members that are either running or wish to run for office to join NIAC Action’s political pipeline. Working with those members to give them the organizational support they need to win their campaigns.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education plus experience is preferred.
Requires 2+ years of relevant experience. Experience and training with political strategy and grassroots organizing, including election campaign work, is highly preferred.
Skills or Related Knowledge
Teambuilding, organizing and excellent presentation and facilitation skills are required.
Familiarity with the Iranian-American community is required.
Must be organized, entrepreneurial, and self-driven with excellent time management skills for work that requires both significant independence and close collaboration with DC staff
Must be familiar with the policy issues NIAC works on and the political landscape
Must be committed to advancing NIAC’s goals and mission
Ability to speak Farsi (Persian) is strongly preferred.
Must be able to travel in and work on weekends and evenings as needed. Periodic travel required.
Remote position based in California, with strong preference to be based in either the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, or Orange County.
Salary & Benefits
