Deputy speaker of the Majlis: “Flight security in Iran is in great condition”

According to IRNA, Mohammad Hassan Abutorabi Fard, the deputy speaker of the Majlis (Parliament), offered his condolences to the families of the plane crash today. In addition, he claimed that “flight security in Iran is in great condition and is at the highest level.”
168 people died yesterday on Caspian Airlines Flight 7908, which crashed shortly after taking off from from Tehran toward Yerevan, Armenia.
The L.A. Times has translated some of the criticism the government has received in the aftermath of the crash:

The reformist daily Etemad-Melli said today that Iran’s civil aviation sector “is bitterly suffering from lack of funds” while the Ahmadinejad government has lavished resources on rural road construction.
“It seems that the government is paying attention to the capillary system of the country’s body while the main veins are seriously damaged,” the editorial said.
