About NIAC and NIAC Action:

NIAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, engaging, and celebrating the Iranian-American community. NIAC Action, the 501(c)(4) sister organization of NIAC, is dedicated to building political power for the Iranian-American community to advance peace and diplomacy, secure equitable immigration policies, and protect the civil rights of all Americans.


The Senior Communications Manager will be responsible for leading all external communications & marketing activities for NIAC and NIAC action, including managing press & media relations. This role will drive the organizations’ work as it pertains to brand and image among the Iranian-American community and broader public, shaping the narrative on our priorities and community through press and other media, and controlling our narrative in the digital space. This role will manage the Digital Associate and report to the Deputy Executive Director. While this position can be done remotely, working East Coast hours (9am-5pm) is required and a preference will be given to candidates based in the Washington, DC area. 


Communications Strategy

  • Create and implement organization-wide communications strategy that includes robust digital communications and traditional media plans, and ensure effective implementation across all departments to ensure 
  • Effective presentation of organizations’ work and brand to tell NIAC’s story to Iranian Americans, policymakers, and the general public
  • Increase awareness and recognition for NIAC’s programmatic efforts and accomplishments across all digital platforms and in traditional media
  • Ensure external communications are high quality, timely, and consistent with communications strategy
  • Oversee messaging on institutional priorities, establish protocols for communications, and organization-wide communications calendar
  • Work alongside a progressive, pro-diplomacy coalition to coordinate messaging and communications strategies as related to issues of mutual concern
  • Can act as a go-to spokesperson for the organization 

Press & Media

  • Develop and execute NIAC’s overall press strategy, including specific strategies for key campaigns and events
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with reporters and proactively identify opportunities to engage key reporters regarding NIAC’s work
  • Serve as organizational media contact and assist with media placements, including providing NIAC experts to press for commentary and analysis, securing high-impact placement of articles written by NIAC staff, and securing TV and radio interviews
  • Work with NIAC’s Policy Department to write statements and press releases; build press lists and ensure all appropriate outlets and reporters are sent releases using Cision
  • Monitor and track the media landscape on NIAC’s key issue areas

Digital Communications & Marketing

  • Effectively manage the Digital Associate, and work with the Deputy Executive Director to support the execution of a digital communications plan
  • Manage member communications, biweekly newsletter, website copy, and social media copy Oversee NIAC’s website, including content, branding, presentation, navigation and analytics and NIAC’s social media presence, including NIAC’s website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Medium accounts
  • Track, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of NIAC’s online engagement campaigns, with the aim of boosting engagement, optimizing lead generation, and revising digital strategy as needed to hit NIAC’s annual digital goals
  • Devise and execute social media strategies for organizational events including galas, fundraisers, social events, conferences, panels, book talks, and more
  • Ensure that all digital materials adhere to NIAC’s brand and image, and fits into the Departments’ overarching strategy


  • 5+ years of relevant communications experience; campaign or nonprofit experience preferred
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree; communications degree preferred
  • Experience managing CRMs, preference for NGP EveryAction
  • Experience using Cision to manage all press efforts
  • Experience with WordPress, website design, and HTML
  • Strong attention to detail required so that content and assets are error free
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Proven ability to work independently

  • Familiarity with the Iranian-American community and political landscape of issues NIAC/NIAC Action work on
  • Ability to speak, read, and/or write Persian (Farsi) a plus, but not required
