Political Director
Salary: $70,000-$75,000/year DOE

About NIAC and NIAC Action:

NIAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, engaging, and celebrating the Iranian-American community. NIAC Action, the 501(c)(4) sister organization of NIAC, is dedicated to building political power for the Iranian-American community to advance peace and diplomacy, secure equitable immigration policies, and protect the civil rights of all Americans.


The Political Director will be responsible for leading all political activities for NIAC Action, including overall management of the organization’s Political Department, overseeing the endorsement process for state/local and federal candidates, and managing all direct electoral programming, including PAC fundraising. This role will drive the organizations’ work as it pertains to building political power for the Iranian-American community through strategic political work, electing Iranian Americans and allies to all levels of office, and scaling up our capacity to support NIAC Action endorsed candidates. This role will report to the Deputy Executive Director. 


Due to COVID-19, NIAC and NIAC Action have adopted a flexible remote work policy for 2022. Fully vaccinated staff will be required to attend some in-person meetings as needed. Working East Coast hours (9am-5pm) M-F is required and strong preference will be given to candidates in the Washington, DC area.


Political Strategy and Operations

  • Day-to-day management of all existing political work for the organization
  • Lead political strategy of the organization with an eye for growth while maintaining integrity of organization mission
  • Work across departments to plan and implement political advocacy and campaigns that advance organization’s agenda, build political power, and engage constituents
  • Collaborate with Organizing Department to build and support field work for political programming
  • Creating new programs and initiatives to support the mission of the organization
  • Support fundraising efforts for NIAC Action via donor cultivation and stewardship, event planning and management, and direct solicitations

Direct Electoral Programming

  • Manage direct electoral programming for the organization
  • Lead the endorsement process for state/local candidates and federal candidates
  • Serve as organization’s point person for all candidates
  • Work hand-in-hand with Advancement Department and the Deputy ED to fundraise for NIAC Action PAC and NIAC Action endorsed candidates
  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with elected officials and candidates at all levels of office

Training and Recruitment

  • Help recruit and track all Iranian-American candidates running for elected office
  • Support creation and implementation of political pipeline program to train potential candidates to run for office
  • Create and launch training program for political fellowship to build next generation of political advocacy and campaign staffers


  • 4+ years or at least 2 cycles of campaign or other relevant political experience
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience managing coordinated campaign activity
  • Grassroots and major donor fundraising experience. Expertise with online fundraising tools, preference for NGP EveryAction and ActBlue. Major plus if PAC fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of campaign finance laws and regulations, election laws, and federal lobbying rules a plus
  • Strong existing relationships with elected officials and candidates, and dedication to maintaining and building relationships
  • Proven success managing up, whether with a candidate, principal, or other team members
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and proven ability to work independently
  • Dedication to NIAC/NIAC Action’s mission and work, especially NIAC Action’s commitment to supporting and electing pro-peace, pro-diplomacy champions to all levels of elected office
  • Familiarity with the Iranian-American community and political landscape of issues NIAC/NIAC Action work on
  • Ability to speak, read, and/or write Persian (Farsi) a plus, but not required
