Iranian poet and artist, Baktash Abtin has died in in Evin prison of COVID-19 after he was convicted of the vague charges of “spreading propaganda against the system” and “illegal assembly and collusion against national security”

Khamenei Voices Support for Negotiations Amid Modest Progress

Khamenei and top decision making bodies voiced support for negotiations this week amid talks of “modest progress” in Vienna. Iranian poet Bektash Abtin’s death has sparked widespread outrage, while the 2nd anniversary of Iran’s downing of a Ukrainian civilian airliner has resurfaced anger and grievances. Parliament has also passed a bill to investigate Rouhani.

Vienna Nuclear Negotiations Make Progress

As the 8th round of nuclear talks in Vienna begin, officials from the U.S., Iran, and Russia have said the negotiations are making progress. Setting a deadline continues to stoke contention. Meanwhile, Iran has banned new COVID vaccines imports and renews attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq.
