Initial NIAC Victory Against Monster.com
NIAC has been in negotiations with Monster.com in regards to their new policy of discriminating against Iranian-Americans and people with educational experience in Iran. On Friday April 25, Monster.com called our office and made an oral commitment to change the policy of excluding educational experience in Iran from their standard resume forms by the middle of next week.
Washington, DC - NIAC has been in negotiations with Monster.com in regards to their new policy of discriminating against Iranian-Americans and people with educational experience in Iran. On Friday April 25, Monster.com called our office and made an oral commitment to change the policy of excluding educational experience in Iran from their standard resume forms by the middle of next week. We are proud to announce that the pressure has been working, but we believe that more is needed.
Although this is a tremendous victory, won after only two days of campaigning by our members and our community, NIAC is still concerned about discrimination against those who seek jobs in the targeted countries, for instance through international organizations and NGO’s. The current reading of the law does not require Monster.com to adopt this new policy, and it does not require the company to stop Iranian students from seeking a better future in America or in Europe by using Monster.com’s free service. Yet, Monster.com has as of yet not offered any changes on these points.
NIAC will continue to negotiate with Monster.com, both to get written guarantees from the company that the changes made to the educational section of the resumes will be retracted, and to ensure that Monster.com treats Iranian-Americans fairly in the future.
Please notify all your friends and family to continue to share their views with Monster.com about these issues. NIAC was formed by Iranian-Americans to promote our participation in American civic society and to defend our interests and rights.
Last but not least, support NIAC financially! NIAC can only support the Iranian-American community to the extent that the community supports NIAC. NIAC will be celebrating its one-year anniversary on May 1st. In one short year we've come a long way and made tremendous progress as an organization. In fact, we're the largest and fastest growing Iranian-American organization ever with nearly 3000 people participating in NIAC at some level today.
But we have even greater plans for the coming year, and we need the Iranian-American community's financial support to make them happen. NIAC operates on the thinnest of budgets with a large volunteer staff, and in order to continue our successes we need to raise more money, which means we need you to contribute to NIAC as well. Your donations will be used to defend the interest and rights of Iranian-Americans of all walks of life.
Please take a moment and make the most generous contribution that you can afford. Some people choose to donate $40 a year, others $40 a month and others make donations in the thousands of dollars. We need supporters at every level so please take a few moments to make your tax-deductible contribution right now.
